According to court sources, Christopher Steele, a former officer of the UK's spy agency M Sixteen, wrote an article about Donald Trump, which was published in January 2017; that is, the time he was sworn in as president for his first term.
The article stated that Trump won the November 2016 presidential election based on collusion with Russian spies and intelligence agents. It was also stated that Donald Trump had colluded with the Russian intelligence agency, the FSB, during a visit to Moscow in 2013.
Steele also detailed Trump's alleged past sexual misconduct in the article. Trump said at the time that all of the information in Steele's article was "completely false."
Later in 2022, Trump sued Orbis Business Intelligence, a company owned by Christopher Steele, under the UK's Data Protection Act. The company stated that it had no connection with Steele's article. Moreover, Steele's article was commissioned or recognized by the then Democratic government.
At the time the case was filed, London High Court Judge Karen Stein said the allegations had little merit. She later said again in February 2024 that the case was set to fail.
Trump lost the final verdict in that case, and the London High Court ordered the US President to pay $741,000 as a fine.
